Diana Burgoyne présente son travail
sous forme d'expositions et de performances depuis plus de quinze
ans à travers l'Amérique du Nord et l'Europe. De plus,
elle enseigne au Emily Carr School of Art ainsi qu'au University
College of the Fraser Valley. Elle a obtenu sa Maîtrise en
Arts Plastiques de l'University of California à Los Angeles
(UCLA) en 1985.
Sound Drawings (Dessins Sonores)
Le dessin consiste en un simple circuit
électrique et de graphite sur un morceau de papier de 38"X60".
Le circuit émet une tonalité lorsqu'on dessine avec
le graphite et qu'on connecte deux fils. La fréquence de
la tonalité est déterminée par la quantité
de graphite entre les deux points. En dessinant et effaçant,
on peut changer l'environnement sonore du lieu. Durant le vernissage,
l'artiste créera 16 dessins, un par un. Au fur et à
mesure que les dessins sont produits, de plus en plus de tonalités
viennent s'ajouter au mix sonore. Chaque dessin sera muni d'une
gomme à effacer et d'un crayon 6b, permettant aux visiteurs
de les modifier et de changer ainsi la tonalité générale
du lieu

Diana Burgoyne s'inspire de la notion de
"fait à la main" et l'applique à la technologie,
l'intègre à la performance, l'installation et la sculpture.
Elle illustrera ces idées par des exemples tirés de
ses propres travaux.

Diana Burgoyne has been exhibiting and performing her work for
fifteen years thoughout North America and in Europe. She is also
teaching at Emily Carr School of Art and at the University Colledge
of the Fraser Valley. She recieved an MFA at UCLA in 1985.
Sound Drawings
The drawing consist of a simple circuit and graphite on a 38"x60"
piece of paper. The circuit emits a tone when you draw with graphite
and connect two wires. The frequency of the tone is determined by
the amount of graphite between the two points. By drawing and erasing
you can change the sounds cape of the room. At the opening the artist
will create the 16 drawings one by one. As the drawings are done
more and more tones would be add to the sound mix. Each drawing
would have an eraser and 6b pencil attached to it, allowing the
viewers to change the drawing and therefore the tonal mix of the
room.
abstract
Diana Burgoyne takes the notion of "handmade" and applies
it to technology, intergrating it into performance, installation
and sculpture. She will show examples of this form her own work.
