Studio XX, Montreals foremost womens digital resource centre, is proud to present once again Maid in Cyberspace, an annual and international festival of media arts. For its 6th edition and with the theme of Active Agent, Maid in Cyberspace 06 focuses upon subversive acts by 'intelligent agents' and cultural hackers who seek to propose new positions and possibilites vis-a-vis technocratic practices. How does one raise courageous and bold voices that dare to act in the drifts of cyberspace? How does one practice resistance in an arena heavily charged with oppressive discourses? The festival will take place from February 4th to 8th at the Fondation Jean-Pierre Perreault, and features a selection of the most innovative works by Canadian and international Web artists. Activities include the exhibition of contemporary web art, installations, concerts, conferences and artists presentations. Alongside Quebecois and Canadian artists and works, we also welcome those from countries as diverse as the United States, Australia, Albania, Russia-Finland, Italy and the Netherlands. Moreover, a new initiative adds itself to the festival's programming - a radical youth radio camp which will allow the students to learn about airwaves, building transmitters, sound production, and producing radio features. Maid in Cyberspace will also present a selection of its programming at the Mois Multi event (Productions Recto-Verso) in Quebec City (February 7th) and at the Centre de production DAÏMON in Hull (February 20 - 22). Web artworks, on-line performances and artist presentations will be shown at each venue.
Tuesday, February 4th: Opening at 5 p.m.
Artists' presentations at 5 p.m. Performance at 8:30 p.m.
