As we know, with technology, we do not all have access to the same resources and knowledge. That there are forces with different motives, but people in different parts of the world adapt to their specific contexts and find innovative means to use their resources which respond to local needs.

This conference offers a glimpse into actions born out of appropriated technologies within diverse socio-political and cultural contexts.


_Mercedes Perez Bergliaffa
(Argentina) - Artist and Curator

A visual artist from Argentina, Mercedes Perez Bergliaffa is involved in both art production and Art History research as they are related to social isues. She studied in Visual Arts and Art History at the National University of La Plata (UNLP), Argentina. In 1999, she effected a residency at the Center for Multimedia in the Czech Republic. In 2001, with a grant from the Antorchas Foundation she went to work at the Banff Centre for the Arts (Canada). During 2000 and 2002, she organised art exhibitions and events, and was a curatorial assistant in Argentina and Italy.


_Marie-Hélène Cousineau (Quebec): Arnait Video Productions

Marie-Helene Cousineau came to Igloolik in 1990. She is the founding Coordinator of Tarriaksuk Video Centre, established in 1991. Cousineau formed the collective Arnait Ikajurtigiit (Women's Video Workshop), and is its coordinator/trainer as well as an active collaborating producer with Mary Kunuk, Madeline Ivalu and Susan Avingaq. One of the website coordinators, Cousineau is the videographer shooting and editing the digital video streamed on Live from the Tundra.
